Somerset is no different in that it too has many unique and historic towns that provide a real focal point for local communities. The market towns of Somerset offer a whole range of entertainment, shops, markets, services and facilities, as well museums, attractions and somewhere to simply enjoy mooching around.

The county town of Somerset, Taunton is a thriving, forward-looking town where modern life sits alongside relics of its dramatic past dating back to Saxon times. Taunton is a short distance from some of the most picturesque and tranquil countryside in England. As the largest growing town in the country, it has some of the highest standard retail and leisure facilities in the area. There are more and more attractions on offer in Taunton every year. From traditional to modern, there is sightseeing for everyone. Taunton has a main railway line, just minutes from the school, with trains arriving from all major cities. Taunton School was founded in 1847, now it is a leading independent school for boys and girls aged 13 to 18 years. The International Baccalaureate and A Levels are offered to Sixth Form students, a choice that is rare in Somerset. The IB Diploma programme, which is proving increasingly popular with both universities and employers, provides Sixth Form students at Taunton School with an attractive alternative to taking A Levels.
