FAQ
Will my child adapt easily to boarding school life?
Monday, 01 November 2010 22:12

It is natural to miss home and family at first. In addition, students may not have the language skills they need to adapt quickly to their new environment. Boarding schools are particularly aware of the language and cultural issues, which can make life difficult for students from other countries and the homesickness, which any new boarders might suffer. School staff does their best to make sure that everyone soon develops confidence and settles into school life happily.

Who will meet my child at the airport?
Sunday, 17 October 2010 19:34

If you child attends a school in Kent, Surrey or Sussex, Irina or her representative will be at the airport in person the first time your child arrives into the UK to accompany him or her safely to school. Some schools and colleges operate a school mini-bus service to and from the airport for future journeys and if your school does not arrange this, or your child needs to travel as an ‘unaccompanied minor’ Irina will arrange for a responsible adult to take your child to the airport. Some parents prefer their child to travel by car and all the drivers who work for Irina are known to her and have been thoroughly checked. Older children (16+) are allowed to travel by train on their own, provided they are familiar with life in the UK.

Think about the following:

·         Would you like a school in the town or the country?

·         Would you prefer to be near to airports and stations?

·         Are you looking for a school with an informal or more traditional, formal style?

·         Do you need specialist support of any kind? (e.g. language)

·         Are you looking for a large school, or a smaller, possibly friendlier, atmosphere?

Why my child requires a guardian in UK?
Thursday, 26 August 2010 11:58

All parents based overseas need a UK guardian for their child. The guardian acts 'in loco parentis' in emergencies and will be responsible for care and accommodation during the holidays and exeats whilst your child is in the UK.

All schools require parents who do not live in the United Kingdom to appoint a guardian to act on their behalf. ‘For many from abroad, their guardian is their parents' representative in this country, essential in times of crisis or need for support and advice, available not only to the pupils but also to the School as a proxy for the parents with whom they stay during school holidays and exeats when it is not practical to return home. The guardian has a clear pupil welfare role, bridging between parents, pupils and School’. The Boarding School Association.
